We are making sure local communities benefit from the renewable energy transition.
VicGrid's draft Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Community Benefits Plan is open for consultation.
Communities
Rural and regional communities are key to the renewable energy transition. Direct investment will go towards improving energy reliability and affordability for local communities.
- A REZ Community Energy Fund will be created in each of the state’s renewable energy zones
- All new renewable energy and transmission projects will contribute to these funds
- Communities will be able to apply for funding for projects that improve power supply, lower energy bills and create energy jobs
- This could include community microgrids, network upgrades or bulk purchases of solar panels or heat pumps
Traditional Owners
Benefits will be developed through direct engagement. These will need to deliver economic empowerment and support self-determination.
Landholders
Will receive $200,000 per kilometre of transmission hosted on their properties. This is on top of existing compensation arrangements.
Significantly impacted neighbours
Guidelines for significantly impacted neighbour benefits will be introduced. These recognise properties that neighbour new transmission can have visual impacts that can't be adequately addressed by screening or vegetation.
Consultation
VicGrid is visiting communities in May and June to discuss the draft Plan through workshops and drop-in sessions.
Feedback will help shape the final Plan, released later this year. For more information and to participate, visit Victorian Transmission Investment Framework - REZ Community Benefits | Engage Victoria
