Why upgrade?

Join the 2.4 million households who have upgraded to efficient appliances and save on energy bills.

Save money

  • Induction cooktops are around 3 times more efficient. Using less energy helps reduce energy bills.
  • Get a discount of up to $140 off an induction cooktop.
  • You could save around $350 to $400 a year by removing all gas appliances and avoiding ongoing gas supply charges.

Improve your home

  • Induction cooktops allow you to cook with more control as they heat up quickly.
  • As only the cookware heats up (not the cooktop surface or surrounding area), you can enjoy a cooler kitchen.
  • The smooth surface is easy to clean and wipe down, with no burners or grills to scrub.
  • Induction cooking produces no harmful indoor air pollution. This can reduce the risk of respiratory problems, including asthma, especially for children.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a rebate on an induction cooktop through the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program, you must:

  • be a Victorian household
  • have a current gas cooktop to replace
  • live in a home built at least 2 years ago
  • have not previously claimed a discount for an induction cooktop
  • purchase an eligible product.

Private rental properties are also eligible. We recommend that landlords and tenants work together when planning an upgrade.

For more information, visit Renters, landlords and body corporate.

Product requirements

To be eligible, you must purchase an approved induction cooktop.

This can be either:

  • a built-in induction cooktop that is installed in your benchtop (on-bench or portable plug-in models are not eligible), or
  • a freestanding stove with an induction cooktop (an all-in-one appliance).

The induction cooktop must:

  • run on electricity only
  • be at least 550 mm wide and 380 mm deep
  • have 3 or more cooking zones, each with its own controls
  • come with a minimum 2-year warranty.

We recommend working with an accredited provider to check a product is eligible before purchasing it.

You can also check a product manual or specification sheet (usually available on a retailer’s website) to confirm it meets these requirements.

How to get a discount

Only approved induction cooktops can receive a discount.

You can view the product requirements above.

We recommend contacting an accredited provider to confirm eligibility before purchasing.

Note: You can find a list of accredited providers at the bottom of this page.

Purchase the eligible induction cooktop from your chosen retailer.

Keep a copy of your invoice as you’ll need this to receive the discount.

Important: You must provide the receipt or invoice to claim the rebate.

Choose an accredited provider from the list at the bottom of this page. Provide them with a copy of your invoice.

The accredited provider will manage the paperwork and process your discount for you.

You can organise installation separately with a licensed tradesperson.

Some accredited providers may offer help with installation, but this is not required to receive the discount.

Choosing a new induction cooktop

Choosing the right induction cooktop depends on your household size and kitchen layout. High-power cooktops heat faster than gas and may offer better temperature control.

The induction cooktop buyers guide is available to help you choose the right product for your home.

The documents below can also help you select an induction cooktop.

Retrospective rebates

The VEU program previously required induction cooktop products to be listed on the Secretary’s product list.

If you purchased an induction cooktop product prior to 30 June 2026, you may only be eligible for a retrospective rebate if the product is listed on the Secretary’s product list below.

An accredited provided will be able to help you determine your eligibility for a retrospective rebate under the induction cooktop activity.

Find an accredited provider

Accredited providers are the only organisations that can process the rebate. Once they receive an invoice for an eligible cooktop and a recent gas bill, they manage all required paperwork and arrange the rebate.

Please note that the VEU program is market-based:

  • not all accredited providers listed above will necessarily be offering induction cooktop discounts at present
  • accredited providers can choose when and where they undertake upgrades.
