Apply before you upgrade

Important: to avoid disappointment, we strongly recommend contacting a VEU accredited provider before purchasing or installing an eligible product. They can confirm whether you are eligible for a discount and what evidence is required.

When might a retrospective discount be possible?

A retrospective discount may be possible if:

  • the product you purchased is approved under the program
  • an accredited provider agrees to process the discount
  • you can provide all required evidence to support your claim
  • the discount is submitted within the required timeframe.

Retrospective discounts are more likely to be possible for upgrades where no old product needed to be removed or decommissioned.

When might a retrospective discount not be possible?

A retrospective discount may not be possible if:

  • you cannot provide the required evidence
  • the product installed is not approved under the VEU program
  • the discount is submitted after the time limit (see time limits for retrospective discounts)
  • the upgrade involved removing an old product and detailed evidence of its removal or disposal was not collected at the time
  • you can’t find an accredited provider willing to help you.

For many upgrades that require an old product to be decommissioned so that it cannot be used again, it can be difficult or impossible to collect the evidence needed after the work has already been completed.

Time limits for retrospective discounts

Retrospective discounts must be processed within 6 months of the end of the calendar year in which the upgrade took place.

For example, if your upgrade was completed in December 2025, the accredited provider must submit the discount by 30 June 2026.

How to request a retrospective discount

If you have already completed an upgrade, contact an accredited provider that offers the product or upgrade you installed. You can find a list of approved providers at the bottom of the product page.

Check if your product is approved

You can only receive a VEU discount for products approved through the program.

To check whether your product is eligible, view the product page and confirm with an accredited provider.

Evidence you may need to provide

Depending on the product installed, you may be asked to provide to a VEU accredited provider:

  • an invoice or proof of purchase showing the product brand and model
  • compliance certificates, if required
  • evidence that any old product was decommissioned and can no longer be used
  • evidence that the old product was disposed of correctly, where required
  • geo-tagged photos showing:
    • the installation area before the upgrade
    • the existing product being replaced
    • the newly installed product after installation.
