First Peoples Energy is a division of Victoria's Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA).

The First Peoples Energy branch supports First Peoples self-determination by empowering Traditional Owners to be central in decision-making as part of Victoria's transition to renewable energy technologies.

First Peoples Energy branch also creates resources for Traditional Owners and First Peoples in Victoria to assist with understanding the complexities of renewable energy.

This important work aligns with DEECA's Pupangarli Marnmarnepu' Owning our Future' Aboriginal Self-Determination Reform Strategy 2020-25.

We are supporting households and businesses impacted by Solstice Energy's closure of its compressed natural gas network in 2026.

Solstice Energy is closing its compressed natural gas (CNG) network in 10 regional towns in 2026. If you are impacted by the network closing, you have 2 options:

  1. upgrade to electric appliances
  2. convert to bottled gas (LPG), along with your appliances.
