On 29 May 2026, the Minister for Energy and Resources issued renewable energy zone orders for 5 onshore renewable energy zones, and a Gippsland shoreline zone.
Each order sets the geographic boundary and indicative transmission hosting capacity for future renewable energy generation development.
The orders make it a requirement that solar, wind and battery developers meet government expectations for community engagement and deliver social value and economic benefits.
