Accredited providers: everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask

As we often get quizzed on accredited providers, we’re sharing the answers to the most common questions we get asked about them.

What is an accredited provider?

An accredited provider is any business that is approved to deliver or facilitate upgrades and rebates under the VEU program.

Do I need to work with an accredited provider to get a rebate on an energy efficient product?

Yes. To participate in the VEU program and get a rebate on energy efficient products, you need to engage an accredited provider.

Why do I need to work with an accredited provider?

Accredited providers will clarify what upgrades are available to you and the rebate you may be eligible for. They’ll even assist you through the process, like:

  • the steps you need to take to participate
  • the necessary qualifications of the tradesperson who installs the upgrade.

What if I can’t find an accredited provider?

You can ask your tradie if they can contact and work with an accredited provider on your behalf. This is because accredited providers can use tradespersons they know (if they have any available), or work with a tradie of your choice to install an upgrade.

How can I check if someone is an accredited provider?

Dial up the VEU Register of Accredited Persons. When you go to the register:

  • click on the 'Business Name' drop-down menu
  • scroll until you see the accredited provider you are searching for.

What if someone who’s offering an upgrade isn’t an accredited provider?

If a business doing an upgrade isn’t accredited, you still may be able to get an incentive under the VEU. To get the incentive, you need to check the business doing the upgrade is working with an accredited provider.

Ask the business which accredited provider they are working with and check that on the VEU Register of Accredited Persons.

Remember: by law, businesses working with an accredited provider must tell you the name and address (not a PO Box) of that accredited provider.
