Up to $7.5 million is available through Round 4 of the Energy Innovation Fund to support projects that accelerate renewable fuel and feedstock innovation in Victoria.
With applications set to open in early 2027, Round 4 will provide funding to assist emerging renewable fuel technologies progress towards commercialisation.
The funding will support early-stage project activities and enabling infrastructure to increase supply and use of renewable fuels and feedstocks.
Renewable fuels can play an important role in Victoria’s energy transition, helping to reduce emissions in sectors where electrification is not currently viable, including parts of heavy transport, aviation, shipping and high-temperature industrial processes.
Developing Victoria’s renewable fuels sector can create new economic opportunities for local industries, businesses and regional communities while helping the state transition to a cleaner energy future.
Increasing domestic renewable fuel production can also strengthen Victoria’s fuel security by reducing reliance on fossil fuels sourced through volatile international markets. It’s all part of the Victorian Government’s broader plan for supporting a thriving renewable fuels sector.
The Sustainable Aviation Fuel Prospectus and a Renewable Fuels and Feedstocks Prospectus showcase investment opportunities and highlight why Victoria is well positioned for renewable fuels and feedstocks investment and downstream low carbon manufacturing opportunities.
Victoria is also supporting project development by releasing updated biomass data that shows the amount of biogenic waste and residue feedstocks available across the state, and their potential to produce biomethane.
Round 4 builds on previous Energy Innovation Fund investments in offshore wind, renewable energy technologies and industrial electrification. The Energy Innovation Fund supports the commercialisation of innovative and emerging renewable energy technologies, helping Victoria achieve its target of net-zero emissions by 2045.
