First Peoples have cared for Country for tens of thousands of years. As Victoria transforms its energy system, their knowledge, leadership and aspirations will play a critical role in shaping the state’s renewable energy future.

The First Peoples Renewable Energy Strategic Plan sets a clear pathway to strengthen First Peoples participation in renewable energy planning, decision-making and development. It outlines how Traditional Owners can shape renewable energy projects on Country and share in the opportunities being created through Victoria’s renewable energy transition.

The strategic plan has been co-designed with Traditional Owners as a commitment to ensuring their aspirations for the renewable energy transition are articulated and actioned. Engagement on the plan has been underway since November 2024 and aligns to recommendations from the truth telling process of the Yoorrook Justice Commission.

The plan recognises that informed decision-making on Country relies on access to clear, culturally appropriate information and meaningful engagement throughout the lifecycle of renewable energy projects.

The First Peoples Strategic Plan supports a future where First Peoples are not only participants in Victoria’s renewable energy transition, but partners in shaping it.
