Last week, Energy Safe Victoria released its 2019-20 Annual Report detailing its vital role as the State’s independent electrical and gas safety regulator.
Key highlights of the Report included:
- ESV’s contribution to the 2019-20 bushfire season including deploying compliance officers to affected bushfire areas to give advice to industry, producing emergency response information and guidance for gasfitters and electricians and providing advice on key safety issues at community meetings.
- Developing strategies to meet regulatory responsibilities while dealing with the impact of coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions. ESV’s response demonstrated its capability to remain flexible and adaptable during these challenging circumstances.
- Continuation of the ‘Be Sure’ carbon monoxide public awareness campaign and other community safety campaigns including ‘Don’t do it yourself’ (electrical wiring), ‘Be on the right side of power’ and ‘Know the drill before you grill’ - barbeque safety campaign.
- ESV’s preparation for its transformation from a single director entity to a three-person Commission, to take effect from 1 January 2021.
