Upgrading Victoria’s high voltage powerline network, the state is leading the way in reducing the threat of bushfires started by powerlines. The range of powerline safety measures being undertaken include:

  • Replacing barewire powerlines in bushfire-prone areas as part of the Powerline Replacement Fund;
  • Enhancing fault detection and suppression control on single wire earth return (SWER) lines on high-fire days using remotely controlled by Automatic Circuit Reclosers
  • Advanced network protection technology to reduce the risk of bushfires on three-wire high voltage powerlines through the Rapid Earth Fault Current Limiters
