The Victorian Government is providing assistance to low income households and concession card holders to keep energy bills in check. The Affordable Retrofits program will partner with community organisations to offer subsidised energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades to a limited number of concession and low income households.
Participating households can expect to receive:
- A free in-home energy assessment to find the biggest opportunities to improve the energy efficiency of their home.
- Free guidance on the use of Victorian Energy Compare to help householders choose the best energy plan to suit their needs. More information can be found here.
- A generous Government subsidy towards the cost of a home retrofit, which could include renovations such as sealing draughts and improving insulation, upgrading appliances to more energy efficient models, and installing solar panels. Installation of retrofits will be performed by licensed and qualified tradespeople, and arranged by program staff on behalf of participating households.
The Brotherhood of St Laurence will deliver the first phase of Affordable Retrofits to 100 households in the Metro Melbourne and the Geelong and Queenscliffe local government areas. See answers to Frequently Asked Questions about the first phase of the program here (PDF, 34.7 KB)or here in word version (DOCX, 63.4 KB).
