Over the coming decades Victoria's sources of energy will diversify and come from different areas across the state. We will use more gas for electricity production and transport, and alternatives to oil will start to play a greater role in transport.
How we use our energy in the future will also need to change. Improved energy efficiency and a smarter electricity network will be needed to facilitate this transformation.
Victoria has an abundance of energy sources – both fossil and renewable energy. From these options, we need to develop different technologies and take a range of actions to build a secure and sustainable energy system for the future of Victoria.
The below diagram illustrates where Victoria's energy resources are located.
